A behind-the-scenes look at the new ‘Super Bowl’ site for the NFL game between the Chicago Bears and the San Francisco 49ers
The San Francisco Chronicle reported on Monday that a new, subterranean site for Super Bowl 51 will be built for the Bears, with construction scheduled to begin later this year.
“The building is the first phase of what we’re calling the Bears Super Bowl Site, which will be completed by 2019,” said Mark Krikorian, the Bears senior vice president of public affairs and marketing.
“The site will be designed and built for Super-Bowl events and will include more than a dozen parking lots, a restaurant and event space.”
The site has been under consideration for years, but it was only recently that the team formally announced plans for the stadium site.
Krikorians statement is the latest in a series of announcements from the Bears about the building, which is currently under construction at the corner of Market and Mission streets.
The building has been the subject of an extensive renovation project, which included the installation of a brand-new roof, new drainage systems, and the addition of new security measures.
Krikorian said the site was chosen to offer a more unique experience for visitors than what was previously offered in the San Mateo County Stadium, which has been a mainstay of the city since 1994.
